Carol Allison                                                      

Artistic Education

An Albuquerque native, Allison came from an artistic family with relatives prominent in dance and theatre. She began her art training at the Siegfried Hahn-Howard Wexler School of Drawing and painting when 15 years old. Her studies were focused on the techniques of the 18th Century English Watercolor, and oil painting techniques of the renowned expert Jacques Maroger, and the Italian and Flemish Old Masters.  . Studies focused major emphasis on drawing principles of the 19th century French Professor, Lecoq De Boisbaudran  who taught many of the well known artists of 19th century Paris and London. These principles were applied to intensive training in still life and portraiture.  To further her art career Allison did numerous copies of various master drawings, and on her own she studied figure drawing with related anatomy, as well as landscape and floral painting. Allison also took sculpture classes at Harvard Continuing Education in Cambridge MA.     .                                                                                                                              

Museum Studies:  Frequent trips to study in the museums  of New York City's Frick Metropolitan Museums and the National Gallery in the Washington DC. Others include Museum of Fine Arts Boston and Fogg Museum.    International trips were also taken to study paintings in museums in Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam and London and included print room studies at the British Museum.

*American Artist Exclusive Online Article, 2004, Author, Carol Allison wrote an online article at American Artist’s website which describes classical drawing and painting techniques used in her classes.                                                                                                              

Teaching Experience:  Currently teaches classical painting to children at NM Art League with artist Joan Irey and previous classes with Siegfried Hahn.  *From 1978 to the present she has conducted classes at her studio Pinacotheque Art Academy, Art Masters Academy, New Mexico Art League and Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute and workshops in Morocco at DAR America.

 Artistic Group Activities: Working as a group was always emphasized by Siegfried Hahn leader of the Maroger movement in Albuquerque. In response to his influence Carol Allison has worked with other artists of the Hahn Wexler School to achieve various goals:                                                                                                                                            *From 1978-1984 she co-owned and operated Pinacotheque Art Academy & Gallery with artist Dan Griggs and here she taught drawing and painting to a number of artists, explained and demonstrated classical painting techniques to the public.    Helped organize the first exhibitions of Jacques Maroger, in the southwest

*An original Maroger painting was bought for the Albuquerque Museum through print sales of Maroger’s work and a second edition of his book was printed for students of Pinacotheque and the Hahn Wexler School.                                                                                                                  

*Allison has appeared in numerous shows in New Mexico and Southwest  featuring Jacques Maroger and other well-known artists using the Maroger medium.
